Home Telecommunications “PRODUCE THE MOBILE COVERAGE EVIDENCE MINISTER”: BOSWELL
Queensland Nationals Senator Ron Boswell today called on the Minister for Telecommunications, Senator Stephen Conroy to produce the evidence that Telstra had met the requirements of ‘equal or better’ service from the Next G network before any consideration is given to closing down the CDMA network. “I’d like to see the evidence that Telstra have met their contract requirements tabled in Parliament and then debated,” Senator Boswell said “I am continually hearing concerns in regional areas over the current overall level of service comparability between CDMA and Next G.” “Senator Conroy’s department would have received numerous calls on their hotline from customers who do not believe they have had their network switchover issues resolved and he should also produce their evidence on how the coverage matches up.” “I call on the Minister to produce the mobile coverage evidence, so that we can debate in Parliament whether the Next G service could be considered ‘equal or better’ than the present CDMA network”. “It is the Nationals constituents that will be the most affected by this decision, so we deserve the right to debate on their behalf whether Telstra have met their licence obligations.” “If the Minister is satisfied that Telstra has met the equivalence tests in its licence condition, and he has nothing to hide, then he should make the evidence available.” ENDS
