“The Climate Institute needs to out itself as a strong supporter of the Labor Green Coalition instead of calling on business to come clean on pollution reduction targets,” said The Nationals’ Senator Ron Boswell today.
Senator Boswell was commenting on the Climate Institute’s advertising campaign in major newspapers today.
“It is up to the government to set the targets based on input from all stakeholders. Business and green groups have put in their submissions on the public record. This advertising campaign is nothing more than posturing and attempted intimidation.”
“The Climate Institute is just acting as a political mouthpiece for its board members like former Labor Chief Administrator of the Northern Territory, Clare Martin and its Labor front partner ‘Get Up’.”
“This is classic business bashing from an umbrella network designed to attack business and jobs and undermine a sensible approach to climate change.”
Senator Boswell suggested that some businesses who were partners of the Climate Institute would take a dim view of its aggressive posturing and expensive newspaper advertisements that were clearly political and nothing to do with science or the environment.
“The claim in the ads that Australian emission reductions ‘have a real chance of helping reduce global atmospheric greenhouse gas levels’ is an absolute furphy. Everyone knows that Australia’s tiny fraction of world emissions (around 1.5 percent in 2006*) will not affect global emissions.”
“The Climate Institute does its cause a disservice by reproducing myths like that.”
“As David Bellamy, a prototype Greenie if ever there was, laments in today’s Australian, ‘In fact, it’s not even science anymore; it’s anti-science.’”
