Mining unions are sabotaging their own members by backing the Rudd government’s resource tax in advertisements, Senator Ron Boswell said today.
"Mining profits mean jobs for miners," Senator Boswell said. “Profitable mining companies mean more investment and more jobs for miners. It is ridiculous for unions to be supporting a tax that will reduce and harm their membership." But Senator Boswell said he was not surprised by the move, because unions had form on shooting themselves and their members in the foot. He said unions had also backed the Rudd government's Emissions Trading Scheme which would have destroyed many thousands of jobs. "The unions should concentrate on backing their members, not the Labor party," Senator Boswell said. ENDS
