$68,100 to boost security at Hughenden airport

Leader of The Nationals in the Senate, Ron Boswell, today announced Hughenden Airport will receive $68,100 from the Australian Government’s $35 million Regional Airport Funding Program to upgrade its security infrastructure.

Senator Boswell said the announcement reflected the Australian Government’s commitment to doing all it could to protect the security of Australia’s aviation industry. “The many people and businesses that use the Hughenden Airport every day of the year will benefit from this protection,” he said. Hughenden Airport became a security-controlled airport on 10 March 2005 and is one of 147 regional airports now required to have a transport security program approved by the Australian Government to strengthen aviation security around the country. Senator Boswell said transport security programs were tailored to local conditions and this funding would help Hughenden Airport increase and improve security measures, such as lighting, fencing and access control. The basic security upgrade at the Hughenden Airport will include installing: · additional gates; · improved fencing; and · enhanced lighting. “The Australian Government recognises the importance of aviation to regional communities such as Hughenden,” Senator Boswell said. The Australian Airports Association has worked closely with the Australian Government to negotiate the funding arrangements for Hughenden Airport.
