The latest Morgan poll on the Queensland Senate has the final seat down to a tight race between the Greens, Democrats and the Coalition. Any ripple in the votes of minor parties has the power to affect the direction of the flow-on of crucial preferences. It should be remembered that at the last election Senator Joyce only kept in the count at one stage by a mere 165 votes, said Leader of The Nationals in the Senate, Ron Boswell, in Townsville today.
There is a stark choice facing Queensland voters for the Senate.
Greens Leader Bob Brown told Queensland ABC radio this week that the Greens want to get in there and be real political players, that theyre not just there to see how others perform. Theyre there, he said, to out-perform others, to set a lead.
The Greens should come clean now with Queenslanders and tell us what deals they have done with Labor as a reward for their preferences.
We know the Greens oppose the tax cuts and want to stop the coal mining industry, intensive farming and close down commercial and recreational fishing grounds. Will the Greens insist Labor closes down Moreton Bay to recreational fishing as well, a process started with the Labor-Green alliance at the last state election?
Queensland is a thriving economy because we have great industries that provide jobs and opportunity for small businesses throughout the state. The Greens would hurt small business and jobs by bringing back the unfair dismissal laws.
Labor and the Greens must come clean about the price Queensland will have to pay if the Greens get control of the Senate. The Greens want to be lead players in Australias future. That does not equate with economic conservatism.
I am standing on a proud record of delivering for numerous rural and small business groups who are at the heart of Queenslands success. From the corner store, to chemists, newsagencies, farmers, growers, fishers and miners to small towns and their needs for services from roads to healthcare and aged facilities, I have delivered on the ground practical help.
The Senate race for the final position in Queensland will come down to whether Queenslanders want effective economic conservative representation or left wing extremist representation.
I urge all anti-Green voters who may not want to give the Coalition their primary vote to ensure that they get their second preference votes to me so that I can stay in the Senate count and prevent the election of an extremist Green Senator.
