Home Family Issues Boswell will hold Labor's coat in the front bar of a working class pub - while they sell gay marriage

Nationals Senator Ron Boswell has offered to take any Labor Senator or MHR to the front bar of any working class pub and give them a chance to sell a policy in favour of gay marriage – while he holds their coat.

Senator Boswell made the offer in an attack on the Greens, and “hypnotised” Labor, in the Senate last night. He branded the Greens the One Nation of the Left and likened Labor to a rabbit in a spotlight.

The offer came as the Labor Left seeks a way to break away from Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s opposition to gay marriage – to create a symbol of their Green style progressiveness.

The Greens have a motion before the parliament seeking an endorsement of gay marriage.

Senator Boswell made the offer to chaperone Labor in a bid to convince blue collar workers of the acceptability of gay marriage to highlight the problem the rise of the Greens has created for Labor.

He told the Senate that blue collar workers, once the bread and butter of “old” Labor, were moving to the right as Labor became increasingly mesmerised by the extreme Left policies of the Greens.

“Labor is bleeding from the right, and the Left, but seems hypnotised by the Greens- the extreme left,” Senator Boswell said.

“Even the Labor left is lurching for fringe preoccupations – like gay marriage – to try and recover their credentials. `“I’ll happily take any Labor Senator – or Member – to the front bar of any working class pub – so they can sell a gay marriage policy. “I’ll happily hold his coat.”

Senator Boswell said that Labor was now showing some “panicky signs” of recognition of the danger of being taken over by the “loony left – with silly priorities” but absolutely no sign of action to redeem its position as a mainstream party.

Returning to his theme of the Greens as the One Nation of the Left, Senator Boswell said: “If the Australian Labor Party does not wake up and deal with the Greens, head-on, history will repeat itself – and some dreadful history will be made in this country.”

In the adjournment speech Senator Boswell highlighted Greens policies he said were as dangerous to Australia as anything put forward by One Nation – as the Greens prepare to take a dominant role in the Senate from next July.

They include the Greens bid for a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, Bob Brown’s personal call for a 50% mining tax, 30% of energy from renewables by 2020, global government via the U.N., full restoration of union power in the workplace, withdrawal from ANZUS, and big cuts to the funding of non-government schools – and much more just as silly.
