Leader of The Nationals in the Senate, Ron Boswell, announced today that the Coalition Government had agreed to contribute nearly a quarter of a million dollars toward a local project to provide better recreational facilities for local people, and particularly children, in Biloela.
Senator Boswell said that funding of $249,530 had been allocated as a contribution to a proposed upgrade of Biloela’s Police Citizens’ Youth Club facility.
“The Government’s contribution of $249,530 toward a total project cost of $528,000 to give the local PCYC a facelift has been championed by Glenn Churchill who, as the local Mayor and manager of this community facility, has an intimate understanding of the service and its future requirements,” Senator Boswell said.
“The project will assist in meeting an identified shortfall in local sporting and recreation opportunities as a result of recent closures of some other local facilities that have provided recreational premises and services in the past.
“The PCYC provides for aerobics, body building and shaping, pilates, circuit classes, injury prevention programmes, disability service programmes, individual fitness programmes, martial arts, boxing, kindergym, gymnastics and bingo as well as after school hours and vacation care.
“It also hosts the annual wheelchair basketball competition as part of the Disability Action Week celebrations.
“This project will upgrade the Biloela PCYC including security fencing, upgrade of the gymnasium and office, painting, a carpark extension, playground softfall and shade, upgrade of air cooling, increased storage, outdoor area roofing and landscaping.
“The upgrade of the Centre will encourage family use of the whole PCYC with parents accessing gymnasium and other services while their children are participating in their activities.
Senator Boswell said that the PCYC funding would further enhance local recreational opportunities, and followed a recently announced grant of $41,500 (plus GST) for Thangool Race Club Inc to help upgrade their betting ring and outdoor function area.
“Local communities can only benefit from further opportunities for children and families to play sport and participate in recreational activities, and that is why these grants have received my support and the full support of the Coalition Federal Government,” Senator Boswell said.
